FAQ’S
What is Sound Therapy?
Sound therapy uses carefully selected frequencies, tones, and vibrations to support relaxation, stress reduction, nervous-system regulation, and overall well-being.
At Cat & Owl Alchemy, sessions may include crystal singing bowls, vibroacoustic therapy, tuning forks, gentle instrumentation, and intentional silence.
What Is a Sound Bath?
A sound bath is a deeply immersive, meditative experience where you are “bathed” in sound waves rather than water. There is nothing you need to do, nowhere you need to go, and nothing you need to figure out. You simply arrive, get comfortable, and receive.
During a session, you remain fully clothed, resting either in a zero-gravity chair or lying comfortably on the floor. As you settle in, layers of sound begin to unfold around you. These sounds are created using instruments such as crystal singing bowls, chimes, gentle percussion, and violin, all played intuitively and with intention.
The tones and vibrations work like a kind of internal massage for your nervous system. They invite your body to soften, your breath to deepen, and your mind to quiet. Many people describe the experience as drifting between waking and dreaming, where time loosens its grip and the body remembers how to rest.
Sound baths are known to support:
Deep relaxation and stress relief
Emotional release and processing
Improved sleep
Nervous system regulation
A sense of clarity, grounding, and inner calm
Every experience is unique. Some people feel a wave of peace, some see colors or images, some simply rest more deeply than they have in a long time.
Your Sound Bath Experience at Cat & Owl Alchemy
When you arrive at Cat & Owl Alchemy, you’ll be welcomed into a warm, peaceful space designed to help you unwind from the moment you walk in.
You’ll have the option to relax in a cushioned zero-gravity chair, allowing your body to feel fully supported and weightless, or you may choose to lie on the floor on a comfortable mat. Blankets and eye pillows are provided so you can settle in and feel safe, cozy, and held.
Once everyone is comfortable, the session begins with a few moments to arrive in your body and gently let go of the outside world. From there, you’ll be guided into stillness as the sound journey unfolds around you.
The instruments are played live and intuitively, weaving together tones that move through the space and through you. There is no talking during the main portion of the session, just sound, vibration, and rest.
You are free to drift, meditate, reflect, or simply sleep. Your only role is to receive.
At the end of the session, you’ll be gently guided back, giving your body and mind time to integrate the experience before returning to your day.
A Gentle Note for First-Time Guests
It’s completely normal to wonder if you’re “doing it right.” There is no right or wrong way to experience a sound bath.
If your mind wanders, that’s okay.
If you fall asleep, that’s okay.
If you feel emotion, stillness, or nothing at all, that’s all part of the process.
Your body knows how to receive exactly what it needs.
What’s the difference between a community sound bath and a private session?
Community sound baths are group experiences focused on relaxation, connection, and collective calm.
Private sessions (VST or VAT) are personalized, one-on-one experiences tailored to your specific needs and goals.
What Is Vibrational Sound Therapy?
Vibrational Sound Therapy is a deeply relaxing, body-centered experience where sound is not only heard, but physically felt.
Unlike a traditional sound bath, where sound surrounds you from the outside, this work brings vibration directly into the body. Specially tuned instruments are placed on and around you, allowing gentle frequencies to move through muscles, tissues, and energy centers like ripples through water.
You remain fully clothed the entire time, resting comfortably on a massage table. There is no traditional massage with hands. Instead, the “massage” comes from sound and vibration, working beneath the surface in a quiet, powerful way.
These vibrations help guide the body out of tension and into a state of deep rest. It’s subtle, yet many people feel shifts that are both physical and emotional.
Sessions at Cat & Owl Alchemy are offered by a licensed and certified practitioner through the Vibrational Sound Therapy Association, ensuring a safe, professional, and intentional experience.
What You’ll Experience
When you arrive, you’ll be invited to lie down on a comfortable massage table, fully clothed. The space is calm, quiet, and designed to help you feel safe and supported from the start.
Blankets and soft supports are available so your body can completely relax. Once you’re settled, the session begins gently.
Instruments are placed on or near the body and played in a way that sends soft, resonant vibrations inward. You may feel these as a gentle pulsing, a hum, or a wave-like sensation moving through different areas.
Some moments are very still. Others feel like subtle movement inside the body, even though you are completely at rest.
There is very little talking during the session. This allows your nervous system to settle and your body to respond naturally to the vibrations without interruption.
Your only role is to lie back and receive.
How It Feels
People often describe vibrational sound therapy as:
A deep internal massage without physical pressure
A release of stored tension in the body
A calming of the mind that feels effortless
A sense of being grounded, centered, and reset
Some feel warmth or tingling. Some feel emotional release. Some drift into a dreamlike state or fall asleep. Every experience is different, and all responses are welcome.
Benefits of Vibrational Sound Therapy
This work can support:
Nervous system regulation
Relief from stress and physical tension
Emotional processing and release
Improved sleep and relaxation
A deeper connection between body and mind
Because the vibrations work directly with the body, many people find this experience especially helpful when they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected.
A Gentle Note for First-Time Guests
You don’t need to prepare in any special way. Just come as you are, in comfortable clothing.
There is nothing you need to do to “make it work.” Your body naturally responds to vibration in its own time and in its own way.
Whether you feel a lot or very little, something subtle is always shifting beneath the surface.
What Is Vibroacoustic Therapy?
Vibroacoustic Therapy is a deeply restorative experience that combines sound frequencies with gentle, low-frequency vibrations delivered directly through the body.
This work has its roots in research developed in Finland in the 1970s, where scientists and therapists began exploring how specific sound frequencies could support relaxation, pain relief, and nervous system regulation. Since then, vibroacoustic therapy has been used in both clinical and wellness settings around the world.
During a session, sound is transmitted through a specialized table or system, allowing you to feel the vibration internally while also hearing the tones. It’s a full-body experience that works on both a physical and energetic level.
At Cat & Owl Alchemy, this work is offered with care and intention and has been studied under Kate Kunkel, who has been practicing and teaching vibroacoustic therapy for over 20 years. Cat is also one of the only certified and licensed vibroacoustic therapy practitioners in the area, offering a level of training and experience that is rare locally.
What You’ll Experience
You will lie fully clothed on a comfortable vibroacoustic table designed to transmit gentle sound vibrations through your body.
Once you’re settled in with blankets and support, the session begins. Low-frequency tones begin to move through the table, creating a soft, rhythmic vibration that you can feel throughout your body. At the same time, layered sounds and music may be played to deepen the experience.
The sensation is often described as a steady, soothing pulse, like being held in a slow, rhythmic wave that moves through you from the inside out.
There is no effort required. You don’t need to focus, meditate, or “do” anything. Your body naturally responds to the frequencies, often shifting into a deeply relaxed state without trying.
Some people feel the vibrations more strongly in areas where the body is holding tension. Others simply feel an overall sense of calm and grounding.
Why Vibroacoustic Therapy Is So Powerful
Vibroacoustic therapy works by using specific low-frequency sound waves that interact directly with the body’s systems.
These vibrations can:
Encourage the nervous system to shift out of stress and into rest
Help release physical tension held in muscles and tissues
Support circulation and gentle internal movement
Promote a deep sense of calm and safety in the body
Create space for emotional release without needing to talk or process
Because the body is receiving both sound and vibration at the same time, the experience can feel more immediate and physical than other forms of relaxation.
Why It’s Beautiful for First-Time Guests
If you’ve never experienced sound work before, vibroacoustic therapy can feel especially accessible.
You don’t need to know how to meditate.
You don’t need to quiet your mind.
You don’t need to understand anything about sound.
The body does the work for you.
Many first-time guests find that the physical sensation of vibration helps them settle more quickly than traditional relaxation methods. It gives the mind something gentle to follow, like a steady rhythm guiding you inward.
A Gentle Note for First-Time Guests
Come in comfortable clothing and allow yourself to simply rest.
It’s normal to wonder what you’ll feel. Some people notice strong sensations, others feel something subtle and quiet. Both are completely valid.
You may drift into a dreamlike state, feel waves of relaxation, or simply enjoy a rare moment of stillness.
There is no right way to experience this.
Your body will receive exactly what it needs.
Grounded Resonance Enhanced Vibrational Sound Therapy
This session is a layered, immersive experience that weaves together multiple forms of sound healing into one deeply restorative journey.
Enhanced Vibrational Sound Therapy builds upon the foundation of traditional vibrational sound therapy, where sound bowls are placed on and around the body to create a gentle, internal “massage” through vibration. In this enhanced experience, additional elements are introduced to deepen the effects and create a more expansive, full-body resonance.
It’s not just relaxation. It’s like being held inside a living field of sound.
What Makes This Experience Unique
In this session, you will receive:
Vibrational Sound Therapy (Sound Massage)
Specially tuned sound bowls are placed directly on the body and activated, sending soothing vibrations through muscles, tissues, and energy centers. This creates a deeply grounding, internal massage that helps the body release tension without physical touch.
Tuning Fork Therapy
Precision tuning forks are applied on and around the body, offering focused frequencies that gently stimulate specific areas. These tones can feel like small, clear pulses that help bring balance and clarity to the nervous system.
Crystal Singing Bowls (Surround Sound Immersion)
While your body is receiving vibration, crystal bowls are also played around you, creating an atmosphere of sound that surrounds and supports the entire experience. These tones feel more expansive, like waves moving through the space and washing over you.
Together, these elements create a multi-dimensional experience. Some sounds move through you. Some move around you. The result is a deeply layered sense of relaxation and connection.
What You’ll Experience
You will lie fully clothed on a comfortable massage table, supported with blankets and cushions so your body can completely let go.
As the session begins, vibrations from the sound bowls will be introduced, creating a gentle internal movement. Tuning forks may be used to bring focused attention to specific areas, while crystal bowls fill the space with resonant, flowing tones.
You may feel:
Waves of vibration moving through the body
Gentle pulsing or humming sensations
A sense of expansion, as if your body is softening outward
Deep stillness, like your system is finally exhaling
Many people drift into a dreamlike state, where the body is deeply relaxed but the mind is quiet and aware.
Why This Work Is So Powerful
By combining multiple sound modalities, this session works on several levels at once.
The body receives direct vibration through sound bowls
The nervous system responds to precise frequencies from tuning forks
The mind and energy field are soothed by the surrounding tones of crystal bowls
It’s like three languages of sound speaking at once, each reaching a different part of you.
This can support:
Deep physical relaxation and tension release
Nervous system regulation
Emotional release and energetic balance
A feeling of being grounded and at the same time gently expanded
A Gentle Note for First-Time Guests
You don’t need any experience with sound therapy to receive this work.
Just come in comfortable clothing and allow yourself to rest.
Some people feel a lot. Some feel very little at first. Both are completely normal. The body receives what it’s ready for.
This session is especially beautiful if you’re craving something deeper, something that feels both grounding and expansive at the same time.
